Pick the assessor who wrote the framework. Earn the certification your enterprise buyers actually require, and make it count toward everything else you’re proving.
Your customers, partners, and regulators want proof your controls work. Today that proof comes from a stack of overlapping demands: HIPAA, NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and customer security questionnaires that all interrogate the same underlying controls. Without integration, your clinical and IT staff answer the same questions multiple times to multiple teams, and redundant evidence requests erode trust in both programs and degrade response quality over time.
For healthcare technology suppliers, digital health scale-ups, and providers and payers alike, “Are you HITRUST certified?” has become a gate to enterprise deals and partnerships. The challenge is getting there without a fire drill and staying there year after year. A HITRUST certification helps a healthcare organization comply with multiple requirements through a single scalable framework, reduce the cost and complexity of multiple audits, and demonstrate trust to the parties that depend on you.
Meditology is a certified HITRUST External Assessor. We help you select the right assessment tier, prepare and remediate, then perform validation testing and submit your assessment for HITRUST validation. Meditology takes you through the entire journey: kickoff and HITRUST introduction session, creation of your assessment object, evidence submission and scoring, validation, and submission for HITRUST validation.
The three certification tiers: The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) CSF offers three certification tiers, each scaled to a different level of assurance and effort.
For organizations new to HITRUST, we recommend a progressive path that builds maturity each year: Year 1 e1, Year 2 i1, Year 3 r2. This path allows you to earn a credential early, then deepen assurance as your program matures. Organizations that already hold a HITRUST certification get a streamlined process.
We can fold additional services into a HITRUST engagement where they strengthen your posture, including a security risk assessment and penetration testing.
Cliff Baker, Meditology’s Founder, was the Chief Strategy Officer of the HITRUST CSF. No other assessor can say that, and it changes the work: our readiness reflects how the framework was designed to be scored rather than how it looks from the outside.
In KLAS’s 2024 security consulting research, Meditology had the most validated HITRUST assessments among the healthcare security consultancies evaluated.
We work only in healthcare, so scoping starts from your clinical and operational reality instead of a generic control list. And because Meditology Assurance is a licensed CPA firm that performs SOC 2 examinations, an HITRUST Certification and a SOC 2 Type 2 can run off one control effort rather than two.
Meditology helps you choose e1, i1, or r2 based on your goals, risk, and maturity, often as a progressive e1 to i1 to r2 journey across three years.
One HITRUST framework satisfies HIPAA, NIST, ISO 27001, and PCI DSS requirements, which reduces duplicate audits. The i1 tier is often compared in effort to a SOC 2 Type 2 examination.
Yes. As your External Assessor, Meditology provides education, readiness, remediation support, validation testing, and submission for HITRUST validation. We utilize separate teams and have multiple guardrails to preserve independence.
The e1 and i1 are valid for 1 year. The r2 is valid for 2 years with an interim review at the one-year mark.
Yes. Our HITRUST AI Security Assessment work builds on the same CSF foundation, available as ai1 (paired with an e1 or i1 assessment) or ai2 (paired with r2). See our AI Certification page to extend HITRUST assurance to your AI deployments.
Yes. See our SOC 2 page. Because the i1 effort is often compared to a SOC 2 Type 2, many healthcare technology suppliers pursue both, and an integrated approach reuses shared control evidence.
